Kealakekua Ranch and ChoiceMART Heritage

Kealakekua Ranch traces its roots to Henry Nicholas (H.N.) Greenwell's arrival in Hawaii in the 1850's. H.N. launched a successful general store supplying necessities to a growing island population. Today, H.N.'s great-grandchildren carry on the family tradition of supplying goods and services to the community through their independent, family-owned and operated shopping center and ChoiceMART Supermarket.

Established in 1881, Kealakekua Ranch was one of the larger cattle ranches on Hawaii Island covering nearly 12,000 acres. One of three cattle ranches owned by H.N. Greenwell, historic Kealakekua Ranch is steeped in the cowboy culture and ranching heritage of Hawaii. Ranching operations on Kealakekua Ranch continued until the 1990's, although the Ranch diversified its operations in the early 1970's with the development of the Kealakekua Ranch Shopping Center and expanded again in 2000 with the launch of ChoiceMART Supermarket.

Kealakekua Ranch Center and ChoiceMART are conveniently located on the Mamalahoa Hwy just 10 minutes south of Keauhou using the new bypass road. The shopping center also features Ace Hardware, restaurants, shops, and health services. A major employer in the South Kona district, Kealakekua Ranch also supports hundreds of local farmers, fishermen, and producers by featuring local produce, fish, and island products at ChoiceMART.
